THE NIKKI WEBSTER BANDWAGON: READY TO ROLL (WE UNDERSTAND)

We have just had something of a BIG SURPRISE. You see, just when things are looking like things could not even BE more interesting for the nation of Australia (cf. (1) the high-larious new Selwyn single; and (2) the, er, apparent advent of Dental Awareness Month), someone mysterious sends Fop an email to inform us that:

* That irascible little scamp Nikki Webster is about to properly relaunch herself as a serious pop artist (rather than an appallingly mismanaged children's "performer");
* She has recorded a cover of the BRILLIANT A Teens non-single "Closer to Perfection";
* The hideous Chong Lim was not involved in same.

We have been unable to verify this BLOODY exciting news. SO: Do you have Nikki's "effort"? Then, PLEASE, can you provide this, to us? Or even just get in touch, as we would really like to ask a number of questions, even if we're not allowed to hear the song.
To be quite honest we can't stop thinking about this news. It has never seemed quite right, to Fop, that while artists like JoJo, Lindsay Lohan and That Other One can be young AND have music careers where they get to perform proper pop music rather than an idiotic program of songs that actual children don't even like, Nikki appears to be stuck in some sort of contractual arrangement (because how ELSE could you explain things) whereby album after embarrassing album of regressive pap is "proffered". And she is older, surely, than the ridiculous JoJo. By now, if all was going "to plan", she should have turned out an album produced by The Matrix or possibly that Ray 'Madman' Hedges (yes, in his 'Mothership'), and be getting ready to reintroduce her new fan base of The Gays to ironic "reworkings" of "Strawberry Kisses". And, until today, it seemed as though there was Buckley's chance of this happening. But now, WHO KNOWS?

It is JUST SO EXCITING!

(For the record, Fop has never really hated Nikki Webster. We rather like her first album, in fact, particularly "Depend on Me". We've just been -until now- increasingly dismayed by her inability to become anything more than an expensive childrens' party performer. We wish her success, in this pleasing new venture.)

I LOVE Nikki's first album. In fact, I am going to put it on for a spin right now.

I love Strawberry Kisses, Depend On Me, Mirror Mirror, Individuality and All Come Back the best. Her second album wasn't very good though, and I hate her recent efforts. THIS news is very exciting though!

Actually, in an exciting development, I've realised that 'Boy Inside My Heart' is one of the best songs ever. This just makes her even better.

I'm going to have to get it out again too!

I seem to remember that "The Best Days", with its nicking of bits from "On a Night Like This", was also good.

Nikki Webster.

Is this where love and hate collide?

This is wonderful news. Nikki has done some great stuff (The Best Days, a gym favourite, and Depend on Me. I am quite partial to her latest single about dancing. And then you've got Closer to Perfection. A song so very close to perfection, it is teetering dangerously on the edge.
